An honest update about my apps

I want to share something important with you.

After a lot of thinking, I’ve decided to make all of my apps closed source.

This wasn’t an easy decision. For years, I believed strongly in keeping my work open. I wanted to share knowledge, help others learn, and build things that anyone could explore and understand. That belief hasn’t changed.

What has changed is the reality around it.

Over time, I’ve dealt with repeated situations where my work was copied, republished, or used in ways that didn’t respect the effort behind it. In some cases, this even created confusion for users, with apps trying to imitate mine. That’s not just frustrating... It can become unsafe for people who don’t know which version to trust.

At the same time, maintaining multiple versions of the apps (especially non-Google builds for devices without Google services) is increasingly difficult. Features like updates, integrations, and overall stability depend heavily on those services. Supporting alternative builds requires a lot of extra work, and after years of trying, it simply hasn’t made a meaningful difference.

I’ve reached a point where continuing like this is no longer sustainable.

So this change is about two things:

  • Protecting the integrity of my work

  • Keeping development focused, stable, and maintainable

I know some of you preferred having access to the source code. I understand that, and I’m genuinely sorry for the disappointment this may cause.

Please know this:

  • The apps themselves are not going away

  • I will continue improving them, just as before

  • My goal is still to build high-quality, reliable tools you can trust

This is not about closing doors... or in my case... the code, it’s about setting boundaries so I can keep building without burning out.

Thank you to everyone who has supported my work over the years. It truly means a lot.
